Hi Folks,
Recurring General Journal in Business central is used to post repetitive transactions, such as monthly rent, prepaid expenses, depreciation, subscription, accruals. There are different types of Recurring Method
- Fixed: Same amount every time.
- Variable: Amount can change.
- Balance/Reversing Balance: used for accruals.
While posting recurring general journal entries you might have encountered the error message: “There is nothing to post because the journal does not contain a quantity or amount”.
Lets’ see the reason for error:
Below is code which throws the error.
As you can see Posting Date is checked with in the date range from 0D to Work Date. If the Posting Date is less than the Work Date the error results “There is nothing to post because the journal does not contain a quantity or amount”.
Let’s try to change the Posting Date to 21/01/2026.
Let’s try to post the entries now.
Entries get posted successfully.
In summary Recurring General Journal do not allow to post the entries with future posting dates from the work date.
Note: The same error is encountered with other Recurring Journals also.
